The risk of corrosion in metal pipes, is extremely high. The definition of corrosion is an (unwanted) reaction of materials with other substances present in their environment. In the case of iron this reaction becomes visible as rust. The two most widespread types of corrosion are corrosion from stagnant water and corrosion from unsaturated, aggressive water. In both cases, the water or the oxygen dissolved in the water attacks metal, which results in rust or copper oxide etc.

Corrosion also roughens the surfaces which in turn compounds and speeds up the process even more. Over time, corrosion can block  pipes and weaken them to such an extent that pipes or machinery needs to be replaced.

Merus gives safe and reproducible results where reducing or stopping corrosion between water and iron are concerned, for example, stagnant water, or water high in mineral content.

Galvanic Corrosion due to differing metals, alkaline or acescent fluids can be moderated by Merus and in some cases it can even be stopped completely, but only when certain favorable combinations are employed. Galvanic Corrosion applications require thorough technical site surveys, study and understanding and we are happy to answer your questions on these subjetcs by email.

Under  normal conditions, i.e. an installation location free of electro magnetic fields and not subject to external electrical energy in the water, Merus is capable of counteracting corrosion, stopping it and reversing it.
